A few places remain for an opportunity to hear from the Director of Bilateral Trade at the State Department Bob Manogue, who will be providing a status report on two large trade negotiations that are currently underway – the TransPacific Partnership (TPP) and the TransAtlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) – and the push to win Congressional passage of the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) legislation.
All three initiatives are of great commercial, geo-economic and geo-strategic importance to the U.S., and he will explain why during the meeting.
The TPP negotiations, which is nearing conclusion after more than four years of negotiations, encompasses more than 30 percent of global trade and global GDP and will open up new markets for U.S. producers. The TPP negotiating countries are the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Peru, Chile, New Zealand, Australia, Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Japan.
The TTIP negotiations, which were launched last year, will reduce substantially barriers to the EU market. TPA legislation is likely to be taken up by Congress early this year.
Should you wish to attend you will need to e-mail Steven King directly at sking@cnyiba.net to confirm place.
