CNYIBA - Doing Business in Canada - Moving People and Product

Wednesday, April 12, 2017
08:30 - 11:00 a.m

Canada is the U.S.’s largest single export market and is one of the most receptive markets in the world for U.S. goods and services. The Department of Commerce reports that U.S. exports of goods and services to Canada supported 1.7 million jobs in 2014 (latest data available). Canada’s geographic proximity has afforded U.S. firms with a significant advantage in selling to Canada’s markets.  Are you maximizing the opportunity?

Whether you currently export to Canada or are new to exporting, the importance of developing a strategic approach to this market is critical to success.

This program has been designed to help U.S. companies strengthen the skills necessary to effectively do business in Canada. Topics covered include:

  • Finding Qualified Partners in Canada
  • The Advantage of the Non-Resident Importer Program
  • Goods and Services Tax
  • Sending Your Employees into Canada: Requirements for Temporary Workers

The above programs will feature industry experts from government, associations, and private industry. Speakers include a Canadian Customs Broker who will explain how to register your U.S. company with the Canadian government to obtain your Business Number.  Hear how the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is applied (as a value-added consumption tax), and how to apply for GST refunds.

Business visitors and temporary worker access to the Canadian market are essential to our New York Businesses engaged in cross-border trade.  Learn from a Canadian immigration lawyer the business activities that are allowed and those that are not, and how to best present yourself to Canadian Customs when entering Canada for work.
