The Port of New York/New Jersey is one of the busiest in the world and third largest in the USA. It managed over 7 Million TEU's (twenty-foot equivalent units) in 2018, up by nearly 7% on 2017, the highest in any year in its 60 year history.
In 2018 the Port handled one third of all containers on the East Coast. In 2017 the Bayonne Bridge Project was completed, adding 60 feet extra clearance, permitting larger vessles access to the port. (Clearance is now 212 feet).
Join us for the CNYIBA Port Tour of the Maher Terminal - and learn how the largest container shipping terminal in the Port of New York/New Jersey operates. (See on Google Maps)
(Above ; Images above from prior CNYIBA Port Tour)
You will learn from the Maher Terminal Senior staff how they coordinate loading and unloading 20,000 - 30,000 TEUs of ocean shipping containers each day. You’ll see how they use x-ray to inspect shipments, how they trans-load to and from rail and truck, and how they cooperate with US Customs and Border Protection to insure the safety of our supply chains.
You will also hear a presentation from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey who has management oversight of all of the ocean, rail, truck and air terminals in the greater metro area.
